Okay, here’s your chance to take part in the 454 Build.

I haven’t had time to post but last week the Monte went in finally for the 454 Stroker build. Actually the rear suspension, wiring, and a ton of other stuff is getting done as well. I wont get her back now until maybe Mid June.

It was after much debate and endless hours of contemplation over this part of the project that I finally took a deep breath and said “Ok lets do it”.

The LS6 Heads are being built, a new Weiand “Stealth”  Manifold and Holley 870 Street Avenger Carb have been purchased, along with valves, rocker arms,  a Voodoo Hydraulic Cam, and assorted other pieces all which have been trickling in over the past few weeks.

The engine will come out, be completely stripped, bored out .60 over and align honed. With the new lower half I ordered almost a year ago, this yields a 496 Cubic Inch Displacement and 12.5: 1 Compression.

This is similar to the set up GM used in the LS6, only I have a few more CI compared to their set up in the Early 70′s.  I’m hoping that the engine will make 475-500 Hp and 450 Ftlbs of Tourqe

So in all of this the block and heads will be stripped and repainted. I’ve decided on Oldsmobile’s Metallic Blue from that same era, I used it on a 455 and I always thought it looked sharp. And it should compliment the blue grey of the new seats, dash and interior once that goes in,  However I thought also that it might be cool to see what kind of responses I get from other people and what they think a hot rods Engine block should look like.

What Color Should The 496 Block be painted ?

The BMR rear suspension component have finally arrived. All but the Sway bar, so we’re almost ready to start installing this collection of pieces parts.

Here are some shots of the Panhard braces, the Upper Adjustable (bonus!! it looks like someone goofed because I did not order adjustable as cost saving measure, but that’s what arrived, so  I will take em gladly) and the Rear Lower control arms

The adjustable upper arms…..

And the lower with the spherical bearings….

Still, trying to get ready for the Western Meet in Polson MT.

The BMR Rear Suspension is on back order :-(   But expected to be shipped April 17th.

A new 40 GPH Electric Water pump, new pulley kit from March Performance, and some little odds and ends were all ordered this week, I can’t wait to see it all starting to go together.

Here are some pictures from parts that have arrived and those that are on order.

Autometer Gauges to replace the dime store junk I found in the trunk when I bought the car. I guess I should’t call SunPro Guages Junk, they seemed to function just fine, and at a 1/3 of the price of the Autometer stuff they are budget freindly as well.

There are four; Water Temp, Oil Pressure, Brake Pressure, and Transmisson Temp.I may add more later, I like gauges, I think they make or break an interior

And some shots of what is going to to go underneath to help that new Eaton Posi, although I added a rear sway bar form hotchkis the car never did seem to be as tight as I had thought it would be, then I cam to find out that the Bar I ordered was consider a “sport” bar, meaning for every day use, and not nearly as tight as the “exterme” bar pictureed below. I’m excited about this mod, I should tighten the car even further. (picture from BMR)

There’s also a possibility of putting a new Timing gear in with a billet cover to clean up the front of the 454 and complement the new March Pulleys, but I aint quite got that far just yet.

Hopefully in the next week or so there will be “live pictures” of the Unisteer and some of this other stuff going in.
