Not a whole lot to report on the Monte these days, still in the engine building phase, but I’ve hit a set back with the LS6 Block, when it showed up, it turned out to be unusable, ah the hazards of buying on E-bay, …so now it’s back to the drawing board, and a different block will be used.
Since I don’t have much to say about my own car I guess I have to just enjoy some of my fellow Monte owners rides, someday maybe I’ll have a car that looks as nice as this one…Here’s a great example of a 1970 502 Powered big block Monte.

This car is extremely well done, mixing some go fast looks with a mix of GM stock, it serves as a reminder that a well planned and well executed approach with attention to the little details on a car make a big difference. Huge actually.
Painted in the 1970 Autum Gold color with a nicely done cowl makes this thing a real eye catcher. It’s not gaudy, but it makes you look twice and take notice.

To me this car is half sleeper and half daring you to try it…..Stock GM Ralleys, and a OEM stance…then you notice the cowl and the little things like the dual chrome exhaust under the back bumper. I guess any one can slap a cowl hood and a pair of chrome exhausts on a car….but this is not one of those all show no go cars with a fart can under the bumper….not even close.

…To a car nut that’s like mixed signals…Making one ponder ….”Hmm …I wonder how fast that thing is”…with the end result that should you challenge it, unless you have something equivalent, probably the only thing you’ll see as it’s pulling away from you is that mysterious “My-502″ stamped on the plates…Whhooopsy.
The 502 in an early photo:

I’d hazard a guess with that 502 lurking between the frame rails, you’d probably not want to tangle with it with your daily driver and grocery getter. It might get embarrassing..
Immediately upon buying the car the owner, Royce who has owned the car now for 4 years, set out refreshing the suspension and replacing the tired out original power train with a Roller 502 Big Block backed by a race prepped 700r4 4 speed automatic.
The attention to detail on this car, is amazing, Not one to settle with the average Royce has put some really tastefully thought out items under his hood…..Need an example? How about color keyed valve covers? SWEEET!!

After talking to Royce via some e-mails about the car, and on the FGMCC website, Royce has plans on switching back to a 3 speed and putting in a roll bar in the future as he works to drop his 1/4 times.
There’s also a nice friendly grudge match going on between this car and…Dave’s that I highlighted 2 post’s before this one. This is going to be fun to watch these two great looking cars match up next racing season!!
Good luck guys we can’t wait to see the shoot out!!
Greetings!!!
As you might have noticed, again, There are some changes around here that may make the blog a little more functional.
Sorry, I’ve been sorely remiss in posting, simply because, while there are some minor changes to the Monte project, not much has happened. You can view some of the reasons for this by going to the newly created history page. The biggest development is that I’ve moved the car to a shop in KY. Again, I was hoping that one of the shops in my area would work with this project, said they would, and then dithered around for close to 10 weeks and accomplished exactly zero forward progress, and disgusted, I finally pulled the car and sent it to KY.
So that’s what’s new with the Monte, while I wait for the project to move forward, I’ve added some content and deleted other stuff that was starting to age and was no longer really applicable.
Of particular note is the new Upgrades List page which will allow you to see what parts have been selected, what they cost, give you a part number, and if available, I’ve tried to include the manufactures website. I’m hoping this will help others to plan their projects.
There is also a page dedicated to the 496 Build up and that will soon be populated with pictures of the build as it progresses.
The Racing page is where you will find some videos, right now I don’t have any, but I’ll put up some of Dave’s 72 Monte racing out in CA.
Enjoy!!
