The new 4 wheel disc system is in from Right stuff Detailing, here are some shots of the kit.
Here are some shots of the car’s progress.
- Motor and transmission has been pulled and is in the shop over at Dixie

- You can see the damaged fender has been stripped of in this shot:

- The rear suspension mods going in. Dirty under there, looks like I have my work cut out for me when spring time comes…

More to follow soon, I should be getting some pictures of the Engine progress this week.
Still waiting on some pictures of all of this but finally there is some great progress on the Monte these days.
Special Thanks to the guys at Dixie Performance in Middlesboro KY. Bugs, Kurt and Ulan, are the best. They have completed more in just 5 weeks time than the two previous shops I’ve used did in …..10 months.
They have answered my endless questions, steered me in the right direction, and put up with my constant calling and badgering for updates like champs, they are great guys. Call them, you won’t be sorry.

Here’s all what’s going on :
- Transmission is out and being rebuilt with a TCI heavy duty trans kit and reverse manual valve body. I opted to keep the TH 350 and beef it up to handle the increased power of the 496 for now. As much as I want to do a Tremec 5 speed manual conversion, at 5 grand; it’s just not in the budget. Here’s a shot of my TH350 tore down.

- The 454 Engine is out, much to my surprise, it turns out the engine had previously been bored 60 over meaning the stroker kit I have isn’t usable, so the machine shop traded me a fresh 2 bolt block they had, and will keep mine with the heads. After a little horse trading, I will get a few bucks in machine work on the new block and my LS-6 Heads for free. The new block was in the hot tank as of Wed.
- A new Extreme Hi-Torque starter from TCI is on it’s way to turn over the high compression 496.
- LS-6 Heads; Three Angle valve jobs and full port and polish / gasket matching is under way.
- The BMR Rear suspension is being installed and is almost complete.
- The braking system is being replaced from firewall to rear axle including all new stainless steel lines. It’s also getting rear disc brakes to replace the OEM drums. Many thanks to Leo of Koniks Classics for all the great help in selecting the new braking system.
