This page is a history of a 1972 Monte Carlo.

I’ve had a love/hate affair with the Monte Carlo name plate since I was a kid. My first car I ever owned was a pristine 1973 Monte Carol with less than 35,000 miles on it. Like any young kid I had no idea what I was doing with such a rare gem, and I ended up wrapping it around a telephone pole driving too fast on icy roads.

It’s always been a sort of love / hate relationship with the Monte’s and me, I loved the long hoods and curvy fender lines, but handling left a lot to be desired, especially back then.

Other years I’ve owned were a 1975, in a Candy Apple Blue. It had the 305 CID and while not a bad car to tool around in, it had serious undercarriage rot, and I ended up scraping it. A few years went by and I found myself in another Monte, this time a 71 with the original bucket seats, floor mounted shifter and factory 350 4bbl. What a rare find that was ,and if I had only knew then what I new now I would of stored it away for a day when I could afford to work on it and restore it, as it was I broke a tie rod and once again found myself with a wrecked Monte, but mostly still intact myself.

From there I ended up with a 1980 and while it was a pretty decent car to get around in, I longed to go back to the 116 inch wheel base years, I traded it straight up for a 1966 Dodge Coronet 440.

After that it was quite a few years more before the Monte bug snuk up and bit and I bought a 2002 SS model. Say what you will, it was a good car with a nice package but it just didn’t do a whole lot for me, and I sold that one to my sister.

Bringing me now to, this 1972. I purchased the car online via E-bay in Chattanoga TN in November of 2007.

The work to date was all done in December of 2007.

At this point there’s really no where to go but up with the car. It is a work in progress and I hope that those visitors to this site enjoy watching it’s progress as much as I will. As you look around at it’s current condition you can see the years of neglect and things that make a project like this a challenge, like the dash being cut, so much for retaining the original appearance as GM wanted it eh?

I will be posting regularly on this site, most of it will be about the car, but some other items will from time to time appear as well such as politics, current events, and other topics. Feel free to look around and by all means please drop a line if you are so inclined. Yes you will need an account…sorry.

Thanks and happy posting!!
